Insulation

Did you know there’s a better solution than fiberglass insulation?

We will look at every situation carefully before we make a recommendation for the best insulation to meet your heating and cooling needs, but we have found that cellulose offers a number of advantages over other kinds of insulation. Cellulose insulation is a “GREEN” material made of 80% post-consumer recycled newsprint. It is great for comfort, safety, and the environment.

Comfort

Seamless Seal / Better Value / Sound Barrier

InsulationCellulose Insulation vs Fiberglass Insulation

In this comparison of fiberglass and cellulose insulation, notice how the cellulose on the right has a tighter fit, completely surrounding and covering the utilities in the wall.

Blown cellulose makes your home more comfortable by providing a better seal against the walls of your home and in the attic than fiberglass insulation. Cellulose works especially well in wall cavities that contain utilities. About 50% of the wall cavities in your home contain some kind of utility such as electric, plumbing etc.

Fiberglass batt can be placed in these sections and can offer good insulation if it is carefully trimmed, but it is nearly impossible to get the batt material to fit into the cavity as tightly as blown cellulose.

Insulation Efficiency

The results of this study by Oak Ridge National Laboratories show that cellulose insulation performs consistently in weather conditions our region experiences annually.

R-value is the unit used to measure an insulating material’s capacity to resist heat flow. Materials with higher R-values are better insulators.

Notice in the graph, that fiberglass doesn’t maintain it’s R-value in all temperatures like cellulose does. You’ll also notice how much the performance of fiberglass declines in warmer conditions. It is common knowledge that insulation helps keep your home warm in the winter, but it also helps keep your home cool in the summer. Like the insulated walls of a cooler, good insulation keeps your air conditioning inside. You need your insulation to continue to maintain it’s R-value in warm temperatures as well as cold if you want to be comfortable year-round.

As an added bonus that benefits your comfort greatly, the seamless seal of cellulose provides an excellent sound barrier. Cellulose insulation effectively buffers noise inside and out by 80%. Call BNG Insulation today and discover comfortable living. 812-858-4000

Safety

Firewall / Non-Toxic / Pest Free

Many of our customers are concerned that using an insulation made from paper will put their home at risk for fires. Let us assure you though, cellulose insulation actually provides excellent fire protection.

Cellulose is fire resistant

Direct heat from a blowtorch’s flame will melt a penny before the cellulose begins to burn.

There are industry standards that determine the requirements for fire protection, and cellulose is the only kind of insulation that can create a two-hour firewall. We use only the finest, Borate-treated product for fire protection. Borate is non-toxic and also happens to repel pests such as, insects, rodents, and even bats from taking up residence.

“Thanks to BNG, we no longer have bats in the belfry.”
